Roma Lamp Base – 3D Model
Maya | Arnold | Custom Shader
The Roma lamp base was digitally recreated in Autodesk Maya using a real-world product photograph as reference, capturing the elegant, elongated glass silhouette and rich tonal depth of the original design. The form was carefully refined to preserve the smooth taper and balanced proportions that give the base its refined, sculptural presence.
A key technical challenge in this piece was achieving the correct cable refraction through the glass, as specified by the buyer. Specialised shading and render techniques were implemented to control how the power cable visually distorts through the translucent material, ensuring it behaved realistically while maintaining aesthetic clarity and product accuracy.
A custom Arnold glass shader was developed to simulate authentic coloured glass behaviour, combining transparency, internal colour absorption, refraction depth, and reflective response. The base was produced in four colour variants — red, blue, green, and clear — each tuned individually to ensure consistent realism and visual weight across the range.
Key Focus:
-Real-world recreation from photographic reference
-Precision modelling of curved glass form
-Advanced refraction control for cable visibility
-Custom glass shader development in Arnold
-Multiple colour variants for product flexibility
-Technical problem-solving for client-specific visual requirements
