Clifton Lamp Base – 3D Model

Maya | Arnold | Custom Shader

This lamp base was digitally recreated in Autodesk Maya, based on an original product photograph I produced for Next. The model faithfully captures the proportions and detailing of the Clifton design, translating its traditionally turned wooden form into a high-quality, realistic 3D asset.

The base was built using a lathe-style modelling workflow, carefully refining the profile to maintain smooth curvature, balanced silhouette, and accurate stepped detailing. Emphasis was placed on clean topology and subtle edge softness to preserve the natural feel of handcrafted wood.

A custom Arnold shader was created to replicate the real material finish, incorporating controlled roughness and tonal variation to suggest authentic wood grain and surface wear. The shader responds naturally to light, enhancing the depth and form of the turned structure.

Key Focus:
-Real-world recreation from photographic reference
-Clean subdivision modelling and silhouette accuracy
-Custom wood shader development
-Physically believable material response
