Lynmouth Lamp Base – 3D Model

The Lynmouth lamp base was digitally recreated in Autodesk Maya using a real-world product photograph as reference, capturing the soft, bulbous glass silhouette and balanced proportions of the original design. The form combines gentle curvature with a stable, grounded footprint, giving the piece a calm, understated elegance suited to contemporary and classic interiors.

The modelling process focused on achieving smooth surface continuity and accurate profile transitions, ensuring the glass maintains a natural sense of weight and volume. Particular care was taken to preserve the subtle variations in curvature that allow the base to feel refined while avoiding an overly rigid or synthetic appearance.

A custom Arnold glass shader was developed to replicate the clear, lightly tinted glass finish, with carefully tuned transparency, reflection, and refraction values to ensure realistic light behaviour and distortion. The shader allows environmental reflections and internal details, such as the visible cable, to read naturally through the glass, reinforcing physical believability.
