Ezra – Upholstery Fabric Material

Ezra is a digitally reconstructed upholstery fabric created for Next, based on physical material data captured using the XTex scanning system. The design features a bold, expressive pattern with a large repeat, requiring a custom approach to texture scale and map alignment to ensure accurate reproduction across large furniture surfaces.

Due to the size of the repeat, the base texture was built at a different resolution and scale compared to standard fabric assets. The repeat was carefully constructed and refined in Photoshop, ensuring pattern continuity, correct alignment, and visual balance before all supporting texture maps were matched precisely to the final layout. This approach ensured consistency across colour, roughness, and surface detail without introducing visible repetition or distortion.

The final material was completed in Maya using Arnold, with a custom shader designed to preserve the painterly, directional quality of the pattern while maintaining believable fabric response. Subtle surface variation and controlled roughness were introduced to prevent the graphic from appearing flat, allowing the material to interact naturally with light while remaining production-ready.

Ezra is available in three colourways — Red, Blue, and Yellow — each carefully calibrated to maintain consistent material behaviour while preserving the distinct character of each variant.
