Arden Ikat – Upholstery Fabric Material

Arden Ikat is a digitally recreated upholstery fabric developed for Next, based on physical fabric data captured using the XTex scanning system. The material features a distinctive ikat-inspired geometric pattern, requiring precise digital reconstruction to ensure accuracy, scale, and seamless repetition across large upholstered surfaces.
Following the initial scan, the pattern was cleaned, adjusted, and refined in Photoshop, correcting inconsistencies, aligning motifs, and preparing a production-ready repeat. Particular care was taken to preserve the handcrafted character of the ikat design while ensuring the repeat remained visually balanced and suitable for large furniture assets.
The final material was built in Maya using Arnold, with a custom shader designed to replicate the woven texture and subtle surface variation of the fabric. Layered roughness, soft bump detail, and controlled fibre response were introduced to prevent the pattern from feeling flat, allowing the material to react naturally to light while maintaining graphic clarity.
The result is a scalable, production-ready upholstery material that performs consistently across different models and lighting scenarios, balancing visual detail with physical believability.
